Service
Service has always been a strong element of Buddhist practice and is an integral part of the curriculum of Natural Dharma. We are interested in exploring ways of taking meditation and mind-training practices off the cushion and into our local communities.
SanghaCare — Bodhicitta in action
The philosophy of Natural Dharma Fellowship is that Sangha—our spiritual community—is Buddha. Sangha is not only our teacher; it is our extended family. SanghaCare is Natural Dharma Fellowship's network of care, a sustainable system of mutual support for practicing Bodhicitta in action. We are a small, informal adjunct to the Sangha's activity that supports members who need temporary, supplementary care as a result of illness [chronic or temporary], surgery, natural disaster, or any important or difficult events in our Sangha members' lives.
SanghaCare services include (but not limited to):
- making or bringing meals
- going grocery shopping
- transportation to doctor or other appointments
- help with housework
- child care
- pet care
- companionship (could be in person or via the internet)
- running errands
- assistance in connecting members to local care services
SanghaCare assists connections between those who are in need and those Sangha members who are able provide services to meet those needs. SanghaCare protects confidential health information to the best of our ability while making these connections as described above.
SanghaCare also provides the training and pastoral support needed for those who would like to volunteers their services. At present, SanghaCare has small team of professional advisors and a team of volunteers. The SanghaCare coordinator is available to discuss member's needs and connect members who can provide services to meet their needs.
